Cute Cookies

This weekend I was very busy with family functions but I did manage to get some baking in. I tried out this new sugar cookie recipe and wasnt that thrilled with it...it got soft awfully fast and that was after sitting in the fridge for almost 48 hours!!
But I think I turned out with some cute cookies...my husband enjoyed eating a few of them...check them out!

Doggy Bday Cake

A nurse at my work asked me to make a cake for her daughter's bday...so I said yes....the theme? Dogs.
I haven't made a cake from scratch nor decorated one for awhile now... so honestly this is my first cake after a long hiatus....and it shows.....look at the border!!

Here is the end result...very amateurish!! Especially when I look at all the cakes on all the different blogs...
PUH-LEEEZE!!....I need to practice practice practice and oh yeah....PRACTICE!!!
I didnt have another cake board except for this one...Rule #1: make sure you have everything you need and plan ahead!!
How ugly and old is this board??? hahahaha
Oh and I could have attempted another border but at that point I was seriously running out of time and needed to finish.....in the end my co-worker and her daughter LOVED it and she said everyone at the party said it was delicious and I got an order from one of her guests to make a bday cake for her son...so I am happy that they were happy!!! But this definately gives me the desire to jump back into the 21st Century of cake decorating and learn all I can, get more organized and really become a spectacular decorator.........Friday I am planning on making a batch of cupcakes and maybe decorate some cookies...

TWD ~ Mixed Berry Cobbler

I made it thru my first TWD baking day!! YAY!!

So the recipe was pretty simple and straight forward...all was fine until about 20 minutes into the cobbler baking....I went in the kitchen to take a little peek and when I opened the door the crust was so brown!!! Like Im about to burn in 2 minutes if Im not pulled out of this oven brown!!!!! The sides were bubbling but I could tell the middle was still not cooked thru..so I lowered the temp to 325 and waited about 10 more minutes and I had to pull it out because it was dark brown....the darker the crust the sweeter the cobbler???? I dont know..anyway the crust was cooked thru, so although its not that pretty it tastes pretty good...oh well!

Here is the pic of my lil darkie ; )

Busy weekend

Well, I was asked to make a cake for my co-workers little girl's bday this Sunday and the theme is dogs...so I have a few ideas milling around in my head...I will post the pic of my creation Sunday night.
On Saturday I am taking an online class at this wonderful soap making studio called The Nova Studio. It is located in Point Richmond which is about 15 minutes from Berkeley, CA. If anyone gets a chance..check out Lori's website http://www.thenovastudio.com/ She offers the greatest classes in natural soaps and body products as well as informative classes on a variety of things...I am taking her Online Sales Success class that helps you figure out the easiest way to put your craft online and market your business....hey, knowledge is power and I will take anything that gives me more insight on blogs, ebay, etsy, etc....Advertising is the key to having a successful business right? And delicious cakes helps too!!!!!
With all this online researching I am doing to get my business together I have come across so many creative, artistic cake and cookie makers out there!! It really makes me even more sure of myself in my decision of going ahead with my cake business.

Thanks for all the inspiration I have been getting from some of the people I am meeting in the cake and cookie world....until next posting...

Happy baking!

My 1st Blog Entry!!

Hello Everyone!!!

Wow!! I can't believe I'm a blogger now!!! I live in Silicon Valley and believe it or not this blogging stuff is soooo foreign to me, but Im willing to jump right in and learn for a number of reasons:
1) I decided to follow my passion and open my cake business!! I am in the very, very early stages of this and while researching on the internet I have come across so many cake and cupcake blogs that I decided WHY NOT??!!! Not only is this a great medium for getting your business out there in cyberworld but it gives bakers the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas, tips and everyone can see all of our wonderful creations!!!
2) In order to join a few baking clubs, a blog is required of all members...so here I am!!!

Well, Im sure once a few months have passed, I will look back at my first entry and LAUGH at what a newbie I was...but until then...bare with me as I learn the do's, dont's and all that comes in the world of blogging!!!

Happy baking everyone!!!
